The Wall

Come back to us O lost soul,
This world is daunting we all know.
Break that Wall which is wrapped around you,
Feel pain, it is the silver lining in the sky all blue.

Come out of your delusions,
Lucid nightmares of leading revolutions.
These spiralling webs of emptiness will choke you,
Look up at heaven and find dreams that will make you.

It’s time to search for yourself, O lost soul,
Believe me, all hurts are written in coal.
Break it now, this Wall I’m talking about,
Or you’ll find it with you inside your death shroud.

I am nobody to distinguish between blue skies and pains,
A journey of riches and that of stains.
My friend, I know this Wall is too thick to break,
But hold my hand, we have a history to make.

Go back to your Mama now,
She’ll help you find yourself.
Oh! Trust me, she do crave for you.
Go back to your life now,
It’ll soften the blows of all those hammers.
Oh! Trust me, it still waits for you.

Wrath Against Karma

Let this karma dig up his own grave,
My deeds will not be Destiny’s slave.
This mutiny flows turbulently in my thick blood,
Strong deprivations will not be marred by wet mud.
A gun and a bullet won’t be my last resort,
Through barren broken roads I will trot.

Nails of longing cut me deep,
Drowning inside me,
I’m too traumatized to weep.
A solace is to be found in this succumbing emptiness
Searching within me,
I seek to overcome this hellish madness.

Let this karma rot in hell,
My actions will not be sunk in any shallow well.
This sanity flows vigorously in my veins,
My desires will not be choked by thundering rains.
A pedestal and a noose won’t be my last resort,
Through times thick and thin I’ll crawl.

I’ll crawl through Warfield of nails,
Towards my heart I’ll creep.
This wrath against Karma will now unfold,
When even death fades away,
My soul won’t be left cold.

Movie Review: A 'Kahaani' To Remember

Right from the Howrah Bridge, bathed in chrome colours to the Durga Pooja, all in reds and whites, to the angst of people living inside the city. Kolkata would never have felt so much alive on the screen before. A character in itself,  containing an assortment of people holding things close to their hearts and each having a story to be told.

Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan), a pregnant woman, enters the mad rush of city with a hope of finding her husband in the lost crowd. A crowd having Kolkata living inside them. Easily muddled by the layers of complexity and the ingenuity of the characters,  she learns the brutal fact that searching for her husband would be an uphill task. The director, Sujoy Ghosh,  knew his content well and has masterfully executed a thrilling tale which makes sure that the viewer remains engrossed till the end credits roll down. Accolades to Vidya Balan for driving a film with so much of twists and turns safely home. She was terrific in her role and had a commanding screen presence. When all will be said and done, people will remember this as yet another movie, single handily carried by an outstanding actress.

This was a movie that belonged to the characters who found comfort in their respective places inside the screen. Special mention is to be made of Bob Biswas, who gave a trendsetting performance with the role he was entrusted with. Parambrata Chatterjee as Rana shined brilliantly in his portrayal of a police officer who was helping our veteran lead.  Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Khan will be remembered for his cold characterisation of an Intelligence Bureau Officer.

Be it Setu’s aesthetic cinematography, the soulful ‘Ekla Chalo’ rendition by Mr. Amitabh Bacchan, the jaw dropping intermission sequence, the devoted Durga Pooja crowd, the dramatic and heart racing climax, the scintillating opening scene or the claustrophobic environment of Kolkata, Kahaani hits each and every note right.

A benchmark for the Indian thrillers, Kahaani will easily rewrite the way tales are told in our country. A path breaking movie that will find accolades among the classes as well as the aam junta. All said, this ‘Kahaani’ will leave you stunned.

Mannequin

A mannequin clothed by death,
Head bent in his claustrophobic sack.
He stared at a room full of inorganic heap
Suicidal tendencies rooted so deep.

Wondering at plastic figures around him
Fake smiles and fake skin they live in.
The mannequin searched for a way,
To smite all those who betray.
A way to heal cracked hearts
Pseudo makeup to cover all the scars.
A way to shun this flamboyant hatred that now entered his soul
A red flame to incinerate this ghoul.

Walking dead,
He saw all psyched heads.
Burning themselves all night,
Slaying others in haunting sun's light.
Living lives as a harrowed nightmare
And tormented by core's dark flare.
Puppetered by desires,
 And mastered by machined liars.

The Protagonist clothed by death,
Lifts his head from the claustrophobic sack.
He saw in himself a faded reflection
Of all the people he hated with such vengeful emotion,
And then came the cursed realisation,
That he too was all flesh and bone in this damnation.
